STEP 2.Starting on one side of the lift gate, use a screwdriver to remove the clip attached to the pivot point at the top end of the strut. STEP 3. When removing this end of the strut, avoid standing directly under the lift gate; you can support it with your hand for extra stability. STEP 4. Once the top portion of the strut is removed from the vehicle, remove the clip on the bottom end of the strut with the screwdriver.
